Permaculture Landscape
Design & Installation

So what IS permaculture?

We hear it all the time. This trendy term has a serious meaning for today’s home- or business owner interested in sustainable and environmentally friendly landscape design. Simply put, permaculture is “the development of agricultural ecosystems intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient.” Such designs are lower-maintenance than many other garden setups, as they take advantage of and integrate into natural features. There are some fundamental concepts underpinning a design rooted in permaculture.

Use the land as it is

When we create a design, we take advantage of what’s already in place. Does rainwater flow in a certain direction on the property? We’ll place plants in the water’s path to let nature provide its benefits naturally for you. Are there areas which have problems with drainage, or have rockier soil? We’ll use our expertise to mold a design around the contours of the natural world, which adds up to more successful plants, and less work for you!

Agricultural permanence

Permaculture designs are intended to make the landscape part of your everyday life and experience. The edible plants which are the focus of permaculture planting are intended to be integrated into your meals, and care for the abundant growth becomes a part of your lifestyle.

Reap a harvest

A landscape created with permaculture in mind doesn’t use plants just for looks; we install plants that you can use for many purposes, including food and medicine. With our extensive knowledge of today’s plant choices, we can recommend the perfect plants for your needs and ensure that they are placed where they will grow and reproduce most effectively.

Mimic natural ecosystem balance

Plants, watering systems, and hardscape are all installed in such a way that a long-term ecosystem can be sustained and even regenerated. Nothing in a permaculture landscape is intended to be disposable or destructive to the environment, or last in only a short-term sense. Many of the plants will not merely succeed in your backyard, but will actively spread in and enhance the surrounding area, benefiting the land around them.

Compost Tea

We can handle many projects under the permaculture umbrella, such as the hot new concept of organic compost tea fertilizing. Compost tea is made by allowing compost to steep in water for at least a day, then using it as a highly nutritious and biologically active fertilizer for your garden. We can install such a system from top to bottom and get this incredible technique working for your plants!

Fencing

For privacy and a beautiful, rustic appearance, we also frequently install garden fences and other light hardscape around plots and backyard permaculture setups.

Design Examples

Here are a few of our previous designs. We take into account every detail of your property in the design and map out each species of plant. You can find more examples on our project photos page.
