According to Bill Mollison, who first coined the term in 1978, Permaculture is “the harmonious integration of landscape and people – providing their food, energy, shelter, and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way.” Instead of falling into the same distant, adversarial relationship with nature that many do, permaculturists seek to develop a mutually-beneficial friendship with the land they cultivate.

At Cooper Mountain Contracting, our definition for permaculture is to follow natural law principles to foster good connections between all life, between the humans, animals and plants that share a space in nature, and encourage others to do the same.

With our permaculture designs we think outside the box; beyond installing just a standard raised bed garden, we infuse all our landscaping with plants that are edible. Instead of a privet hedge, imagine a hedge that produces berries! Picture a beautiful landscape that is both functional and productive, making tasty food for you and your family!

The design plan includes: a site assessment, a planting map (diagram, colors, textures), plant list, nurseries from which the plants can be obtained, general care and maintenance instructions, general hardscape concepts, and any type of remediation work recommended (soil type, earth works).

The insta-garden is for those who want to grow food in their own backyard, but don’t want to go too big, too fast.  This is a smaller scale option for those not set on a full permaculture landscape design & install. We offer this service through Backyard Pantry where you can  choose:

  1. Number of raised beds
  2. Type of fencing
  3. Annual plants such as veggies
  4. Perennial trees and shrubs

These are very easy to install and maintain. It is our goal to help everyone be able to grow their own food in their backyard, no matter what size!

It depends on exactly what you are looking for. If you are looking for a complete redo of your landscape, our edible landscape design and install fees vary based on each individual situation.
